Meet Rachael, Manager of Our Shop Partner Baker Street Bread!

When you're not at Baker Street Bread Co. what do you like to do❓

I like to spend time with friends and family. It's been a weird year with covid and not being able to see them before, so now I spend as much time with them as possible.

Now that things are starting to open back up, what are you looking forward to with your business❓

I am looking forward to being able to interact with customers again! Only a limited number of people are allowed in right now. I can't wait to be able to interact with more people. Chestnut Hill is such a close-knit community. I started here in October, and I already feel part of the Chestnut Hill family. I can't wait to meet more neighbors and make more friends in the community.

What's a fun fact that people would be surprised to know about you❓

I have double jointed elbows and really long arms!

Tell us a favorite story from during your time at Baker Street❓

There was an Ice Fest in Chestnut Hill in the winter, and we featured a raclette sandwich during it with raclette cheese from French alps, that we melted and scraped onto one of our baguettes with Dijon mustard and cornichons. We had no idea it would be as popular as it was! We had a line around 2 blocks for it! People waited 2 hours. We are so happy that the community loved it.

Actually... we'll be doing this again this Sunday, May 2nd!!  It's a Spring Stroll in Chestnut Hill. There will be lots of spring home and garden things going on with lots of food purveyors out. All the restaurants will be participating, and we'll be doing our raclette sandwich again! We're all small businesses in this area, and we all help each other out by promoting each other. It's a great neighborhood event.

How has Bloc Delivery helped your business❓

Bloc has definitely promoted us in a great and different way! During the worst of the pandemic it was great when people who didn't want to go out were able to get our breads, sweets, soups, and salads that we pour our heart and soul into safely delivered to their houses. Everything we do is fresh and homemade. Having Bloc Delivery as an option for people who didn't feel comfortable venturing out was really helpful. It gave us another way to share our product.

Where do you live and what do you love about your neighborhood❓

I live in Glenside about 15 minutes away from Chestnut Hill. It's similar to Chestnut Hill in that it's all small businesses with great little spots for coffee, bagels, quick sandwiches, etc - just smaller! The community around us is all families and everyone is super nice. People help each other out just like here in Chestnut Hill. I got my car stuck once, and neighbors I didn't even know showed up to shovel me out.

What is your wish for your community❓

Continue to stay strong and push through the pandemic together to get back to the safe sense of normalcy that everyone is wishing and hoping for!
